There's no timer once you're actually inside the mission though. If I played it for the first time now, especially after the newer Deus Ex games which play much better on both PC and console, I don't think I'd like it as much, but being able to remember what it was like playing it when it was new, it scratched an itch for a type of experience you didn't really get on consoles as often back then (KOTOR came out that same year). Once he says that, the hostages in the first mission are dead before you get there, no way to save them, Sarif actually contacts you twice, first time he tells you to hurry up is about halfway through the timer. As a guy who loved the first game much more for its story, lore, setting and world building than just the gameplay (which was also great), I could take less customization and depth in building my character if it meant I got to experience another Deus Ex on a console. Its biggest problems were things that were likely because it was built for consoles in mind - the ammo system, the weaker RPG aspects, and the open world and exploration was crimped to fit consoles and the loading screens sucked. Plus, moving around and shooting felt great with the Xbox controller S. I loved the factions and being able to go back and forth and not being quite tied down to one until later in the game, I liked walking around and seeing a little more of what 'normal' looked like in the Deus Ex world. It hits on many of the things I like the most about Deus Ex - the story, setting, open world feeling. ![]() I absolutely loved DX:IW, because I got it on launch for the Xbox, and as a console FPS, it really stood out as a unique experience at the time.
